Unforgettable

“Unforgettable” is Solveig Hisdal’s last full collection for Oleana. After 25 years as the one and only designer at Oleana, she has left a footprint in the history of Norwegian fashion and design. The inspiration to the Spring/Summer collection 2019 is primarily the Hellebore flower. Everythig knitted in a delicate blend of soft merinowool/silk.

Linking

The Norwegian word for linking is ‘kettling’, although this is originally a German word meaning ‘chain together’. On the round linking machines, linkers attach the front and back sections of the garment together at the shoulders. They patiently thread each individual stitch onto each needle, ensuring that once the first section is on, the corresponding stitch for the second section meets it. The machine then ‘links’ these together with a chain stitch. The same process applies to the trims down the front of the garment and around the neckline.

Our ambition is to produce some of the most beautiful clothes in the world, by focusing on high quality and excellent design. This requires advanced techniques, lots of handwork and the most skilled people.

Merino wool and silk

Oleana has decided  to work with the very best raw materials. Oleana’s main quality is an exclusive soft worsted yarn in a mixture of 25% silk and 75% merino wool. In a worsted yarn the fibers are combed and the fibers are lying more parallel than in a carded yarn. To spin a worsted yarn you need longer fibers and the yarn gets smoother, more shiny and stronger than a carded yarn.

The raw materials, merino wool and silk, makes the yarn soft and delicate. Silk is one of thinnest, most shiny fibers you can find. Merino wool is the thinnest wool fiber next to cashmere. The yarn spun from a mixture of merino wool and silk keeps you warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather. Yarns in these fibers have the ability to absorb moister without feeling wet. Oleana buys the merino/silk yarn from two traditional spinners in North Italy who are suppliers to the most exclusive textile producers in the world.
